Candidate Forum
Mark Ridley-Thomas
Saturday, April 12th 10:30-12:00 pm
Veterans Memorial Complex
Arts for LA will host a candidate forum with Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas who is seeking the 2nd County District seat vacated by Yvonne Brathwaite Burke.
Los Angeles County is the largest public arts and arts education funder in the region. In addition to its annual Organizational Grant Program, which supports over 250 arts and cultural organizations, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission is responsible for providing leadership and staffing to support the regional blueprint for arts education, Arts for All , supporting the Los Angeles County Cultural Calendar on ExperienceLA.com , and funding and managing the largest arts internship program in the country, in conjunction with the Getty Foundation.
Moderated by Val Zavala , anchor of the award winning KCET news magazine Life and Times , the conversation will create an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about Ridley-Thomas’ awareness of, commitment to, and policy agenda for the arts and arts education in Los Angeles County.
A forum with Councilman Bernard Parks is also in the works. Learning about the candidates’ policy positions on arts, arts education and culture is vital, even if you reside outside the 2nd District.
Additional support for this event is provided by the California Artist Coalition of Los Angeles, Emerging Arts Leaders Network/Los Angeles , the Harmony Project, and Los Angeles Stage Alliance .
This event is free and open to the general public. However, seats are limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come first-served basis.
